Food vs. non-food crops : changes in areas and yields 1992 to 2016

Changing demand for different agricultural products causes shifts in land use. Until recently, food production was the main agricultural practice for most countries. Today, producing nonfood crops, exclusively is on the rise. This growth, along with increasing per-capita food consumption, will require large increases in crop production. However, agricultural productive land is scarce and increase in demand are modified by the yield increase. This thesis aims to explore links between production of staple crops and demand for non-food crops and discusses if higher yield enhances or reduces total agricultural area.

Sustainably feeding the next generation is often described as one of the most pressing “grand challenges” facing the 21st century. Generally, scholars propose addressing this problem by increasing agricultural production, investing in technology to boost yields, changing diets, or reducing food waste. In this paper, we explore whether global food production is nutritionally balanced by comparing the diet that nutritionists recommend versus global agricultural production statistics.

Impact of projected climate change on workability, attainable yield, profitability and farm mechanization in Norwegian spring cereals

In cold-temperate climate with high soil water content in spring, the farmer often faces the choice between topsoil compaction during seedbed preparation and delayed sowing, both of which may reduce attainable cereal yield. The objective of this study was to explore whether future climate change with increasing precipitation would aggravate this dilemma.

Trender i norsk landbruk 2018 Hedmark og Oppland

Trender i norsk landbruk (Trendundersøkelsen) er en spørreundersøkelse blant norske gårdbrukere. Den gjennomføres av Ruralis – Institutt for rural- og regionalforskning (tidligere Norsk senter for Bygdeforskning). Undersøkelsen har vært gjennomført annethvert år siden 2002, og årets undersøkelse er den niende i rekken. Det er dermed etablert en database som gir informasjon om utviklingen innen landbruket over tid.
