Karbon tilføres jorda via planterøtter og i form av husdyrgjødsel og annet organisk materiale. Det er krevende å øke innholdet av karbon i dyrket jord. Hovedgrunnen er at mye karbon fjernes fra jorda via avlinger som gras, korn og grønnsaker. Karbonholdige molekyler er også ettertraktede energikilder og byggeråstoff for jordorganismene i eng-og åkerjord, og avgjørende for næringsfrigjøring i jord. Bare en liten andel av karbonet som tilføres jorda vil vanligvis være der etter noen år. Klima, driftsmåte, jord-egenskaper, planterøtter, mikroorganismer og meitemark påvirker karbonets skjebne i matjordlaget.

Nitrogen leaching: a crop rotation perspective on the effect of N surplus, field management and use of catch crops

Components of the field nitrogen (N) balance (input and surplus) are often used to predict nitrate leaching from agricultural lands. However, management factors, such as use of catch crops, greatly affect the actual loss and are a key to reduce N leaching. The present study is based on the 4th cycle of a long-term crop rotation experiment in Denmark, and it aims to quantify, from a crop rotation perspective, the influence on N leaching from N input and surplus or management factors.

Forbs differentially affect soil microbial community composition and functions in unfertilized ryegrass-red clover leys

Increasing plant diversity in agroecosystems is proposed to enhance multiple ecosystem services. Adding selected forbs such as caraway (Carum carvi L.) and plantain (Plantago lanceolata L.) to productive grass-clover mixtures can further enhance forage yields, root biomass, uptake of mineral nutrients and improve animal performance. Yet, it remains unclear whether and how adding these forbs to grass-clover mixtures can influence soil microbial communities and associated soil carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) cycling.

Red clover for silage: management impacts on herbage yield, nutritive value, ensilability and persistence, and relativity to perennial ryegrass

This 6‐year experiment quantified the impacts of management factors on red clover yield, persistence, nutritive value and ensilability, and compared these with perennial ryegrass receiving inorganic N fertilizer. Within a randomized complete block design, field plots were used to evaluate a 2 (cultivar, Merviot and Ruttinova) × 2 (alone and with perennial ryegrass) × 2 (0 and 50 kg fertilizer N ha−1 in mid‐March) × 2 (harvest schedule) combination of the factors relating to red clover, and a 2 (harvest schedule) × 4 (0, 50, 100 and 150 kg N ha−1 for each cut) combination of the factors relating to perennial ryegrass.

Phosphorus bioavailability of sewage sludge-based recycled fertilizers

Norway ratified the agreement and implemented the goals in November 2016, and have since searched for solutions to reduce the overall emissions of harmful gasses to the atmosphere. Soil health is the continued capacity of a soil to function as a vital, living ecosystem that sustains plants, animals, and humans. Only living things can have “health,” so viewing soil as a living, breathing ecosystem reflects a shift in the way we view and manage our nation’s soils. Soil isn’t an inert growing medium, but rather is the home of billions of bacteria, fungi, and other organisms that together create an intricate symbiotic ecosystem. This ecosystem can be managed to support plants and animals, by cycling nutrients, absorbing, draining and retaining rainwater and snowmelt for use during dry periods, filtering and buffering water to remove potential pollutants, and providing habitat for the soil biological population to flourish and diversify to keep the ecosystem functioning well.

Jordsmonnstatistikk Norge

This report presents soil statistics for agricultural land in Norway. Soil data from the soil survey form the basis of the statistics. The survey is done as a sample survey on 0.9 km2 plots, in a predefined 9x9 km2 grid system. Hence, the statistics for Norway is an estimate. The area distribution of a number of topics is presented (both in decares (1 decare = 0,1 hectare) and percent). Soil properties vary between different regions in Norway, mostly due to a big variety between the soil forming factors. This variation must be taken into account in the management of the soil resource, for the soil to maintain the functions for producing food in a sustainable way.

Mikrogjødsling – fra årsbehov til dagsbehov

Utvikling av gjødslingsrådssystemer er et viktig FoU-område i landbruket. Dette har tidligere vært basert på jordanalyser som grunnlag for årsbudsjett, med vårgjødsling ved såing samt en til to tilleggs-gjødslinger. Med dette gjødslingsregimet er det vanskelig å dosere riktige mengder i forhold til plantenes behov i løpet av sesongen. Dette gir underoptimal utnyttelse av tilført gjødsel, redusert avling, tap av næringsstoff, noe som gir miljøbelastning ved overgjødsling av vannforekomster mm. Bunnlinja blir dårlig driftsøkonomi for bonden.

Nutrients in a Circular Bioeconomy: Barriers and Opportunities for Mineral Phosphorus Independence in Norway

Tidligere forskning har vist at mengden P i biprodukter fra det norske landbruket (hovedsakelig husdyrgjødsel) og havbruksnæringen (hovedsakelig fiskeavfall) er over fire ganger så stort som det årlige behovet for P i gjødsel. Det er også beregnet at produksjonsoverskuddet av slike biprodukter kan øke til å bli 12 ganger behovet innen 2050. Likevel er Norge i dag avhengig av store mengder importert mineralsk fosfor, i økende grad fra Marokko, samtidig som ubrukt P akkumuleres i jordsmonn og akvatiske systemer.

Sustainable recycling of organic waste resources in the future bioeconomy

The intended future bioeconomy requires increased utilisation of available bioresources. As part of this, optimal utilisation of nutrients in waste resources as fertiliser in agriculture will be indispensable. However, waste resources are complex materials that are strongly varying in terms of composition, quantity and quality. Therefore, several barriers will have to be overcome to realise efficient nutrient cycling. For example, large amounts of water in many waste resources can result in difficulties related to handling and application as fertiliser, and that transport is costly over large distances. Further, unknown quality of waste resources as fertiliser is often hindering efficient and environmentally friendly use. Waste resources can contain environmental pollutants and pathogenic microorganisms. Especially microplastics have lately received gained focus. Also, acceptance of waste resources as fertiliser by farmers is unknown, and nutrient recycling can lead to environmental problem shifting.

Møystadfeltet – Norges langvarige gjødslingsforsøk

I 1922 ble norges eldste gjødslingsforsøk anlagt på Hedmark fylkes forsøksgård på Møystad øst for Hamar. Dette var bare et drøyt tiår etter at Norsk Hydro startet salg av norgessalpeter fra fabrikken på Rjukan og hensikten med forsøket var å sammenlikne virkning av den nye mineralgjødsla med tradisjonell husdyrgjødsel. Man var nok særlig interessert i å undersøke hvordan avlingsnivået utviklet seg på lengre sikt. Kunne jordas fruktbarhet opprettholdes med den nye gjødsla?

Manure and tillage use in remediation of eroded land and impacts on soil chemical properties
