Liming has in a recent study at NBR showed to be an important tool to increase the productivity of sugar beet also on soils with sufficient pH. The aim of this project is to verify the results in sugar beet and to further elucidate the factors involved in the yield increase. Several factors, e g soil physics and structure, will be studied in the new project and studies on plant nutrition will be continued. The project will also be continued in other crops ( cereals, oil seed crops and legumes) by other specialists to investigate if possible effects can be found also here. A main emphasis is to see whether liming can be used in a cropping system based on the principles of IPM. The whole project structure is presented here including other crops in the crop rotation. But the application is only for financing the studies in sugar beets and some basic analyses in connection with selection of experimental fields.
